Leeds. Petrofina Yarn Street 2953 s/s. Vandal damage to s/s. Recover s/s.
Scheme Note – YP04585
On 5th of January 2007 Network Design were informed by Building and Civil that the steel doors at Petrofina Yarn Street s/s had been torn from their hinges by vandals probably looking for copper. B and C have installed plywood sheeting across the doorway of Petrofina Yarn s/s.
The substation is located in the side of the derelict building. It is the only remaining substation in the Derelict Yarn Street area. There is evidence of copper cable thefts in the area. The area is on the side of the River Aire East of Leeds City Centre and is to be re developed in the near future. The substation feeds industrial units on National Road. The estimated maximum demand of this substation is 300kva. The largest load is a 167kva direct feed to Leeds Vacuum Formers on National Road. This feed is to be breeched to the WF300 LV main feeding to Old Mill Lane 7436 s/s.
The existing LV loads are to be transferred to Hunslet Business Park 7424 s/s (Max demand 250kva on the 800kva UDE). There are many empty commercial units on National Road waiting for Tenants. Network Design are to monitor the area for load growth and possibly carry out further work to transfer load.
Proposed work.
1)    Carry out LV linking as per LV System Map. See existing Proposed LV System Map.
2)     Carry out LV jointing transfers in front of Petrofina Yarn Street s/s
3)    Insert 11kv 185 triplex piece to joint out the substation.
4)    Recover all substation equipment including the new 11kV Ringmaster.
It is believed that we tried to recover the substation in the last two years but were prevented from doing so by the building owners. The site is now very vunerable and is a significant and safety risk to YEDL.
